Great book and know enough to know it is as truthful as can be, but loads more I never knew.

I've read the Bus Conductor Hines but thought I'd dive into the rest. Got Not now not whatever it's called yesterday. Won the Booker prize in 94 I think.

Child two doing a PhD on Scottish authors. Possibly. After his masters on Welsh was a success so looking to expand the authors and I enjoy discussing the books he works on.

Need to read that Scabby Queen as well.

Anchor Scottish authors - Jenni Fagan, Gordon Legge, Alisdair Gray, Alan Warner, Duncan McLean, Ron Butlin, Chris McQueer all essential.

Kelman's short stories are superb. I love his novels, but his stories are the ones for me. Had the privilege of going for a pint of Guinness with the great man once. Only time I've ever been slightly awe-struck when meeting a writer. He's a fucking diamond of a fella.

Read lots of Kelman a long time ago - not not while the giro, how late it was how late, good stuff, the chances. All good.
Duncan McLean 's first one was ace. Warner can be a bit up and down but when he's good he's ace.

Kevin_Stapleton Yeah, if Ali Smith I read Autumn, the first in the series which was great, then was a bit unmoved by Winter. Not read the other two. Think the idea was to write them all within a specific timeframe or something, so maybe felt a bit rushed. Will go back and read one of her standalone novels though, because as I say I liked the first one that I read.

fulmine I’ve read the first two and enjoyed them but ultimately felt unmoved by them. They’re intelligent books that probably feel like you’re reading them as homework rather than for pleasure.
