Foxy_Dread finished it. Very enjoyable and interesting. Not just a biography but Morley weaves Wilson’s life into the times, places and people of Manchester from the 1950s onwards. How much this is retro fitted is open to debate but it’s very well done and enjoyable nevertheless. As Morley states in the beginning, the book was written over a long period of time. It works best when it moves from Morley eulogising over how great Wilson was and gains more balance and perspective when other contributors are included describing a visionary but flawed man albeit one who was hugely likeable. The end of the book describing his death which leans heavily on input from his 1st and 2nd wives and his son and daughter, is very moving. The final chapter when again Morley returns to eulogising Wilson diminishes rather than enhances the book.
‘So it goes’.
