Anchor Just started Greenmantle by Buchan. it's pretty turgid first 20 pages - no way near as crash bang as The 39 Steps (one of my fav books of all time) - I was promised 'thrilling'. Or is it my 2023 sensibilities not in tune with the 1916 demand!
fuzzy Just finished Bunnyman by Will Sergeant. Enjoyed it. I want to be young and knock around Eric's in the late 70s.
Mega_Armageddon_Chickens Anchor Me too... And on the 39 Steps the chase part in Scotland at the start is excellent.. I wasn't that bothered about it when that section ended it was almost as if he'd run out of ideas. Still very good overall.
Djpekingman fuzzy Oh come on, we had the Wigwam, Brannigans and Heaven and Hell, plus the likes of the Precinct, the Whip and the Mucky Duck.
Anchor Mega_Armageddon_Chickens I love those chase stories. Or genre if you like. As it happens I can't find my copy of Greenmantle so have started Ham on Rye by Bukowski. I'm enjoying it much better.
Jon fuzzy I was going to buy that then I read it only goes up to the start of the band. Think it’s worth buying then?
Under-the-ground Jon yes please. That looks right up my strasse. I would buy that just coz of the cover
Under-the-ground Just finished this. Another of my dads. Apparently it helped the thaw in the soviet block. Another reason I am glad I am not Russian. Tough is an understatement. Good book
