Travis_Bickle the ‘Christmas party’ story is pure politics. That’s why Labour and others are running with it. Rightly or wrongly, it will impact Johnson’s and, by extension, his party’s electoral fortunes far more than a bill that strips citizenship.

This time next week it will be forgotten. Same as all the other shit storms that seem to happen about almost weekly now, and every single one of them is a "surely he has to resign now" level event. Can you even remember what we were all angry about two weeks ago? Three weeks ago? And the one before that? Meanwhile... we'll still have the Nationality and Borders Bill, the Labour ammendments of which were voted down yesterday and the bill itself got passed today.

It's nowhere in the press. Not even the Guardian when I looked earlier. It used to be the case that the press would pick these things apart and people would get angry about them but now if you want to know what's in a bill you have to fucking read all one hundred and eleven pages of it and work it out yourself. It's grinding me down.

The only party I've seen talking about is The Greens. Just like always. No one else seems to bother anymore.

I gave up after these as the point was kind of made.
And the notion that only the Greens are actually interested in challenging the Conservatives on substantive policy is nonsense.
Nobody is waiting for Johnson to resign. But we can now foresee challenges to his authority (the chamber was full of them yesterday from his own benches) and, ultimately, to his leadership. There are no standouts waiting in the wings. And the factions that were subdued by Johnson's 80-seat majority and 'getting Brexit done' will not be so quiet next time. That makes a Labour victory far more likely than a press release on a particular bill. Sad, but ultimately true. Now more than ever. Voting isn't rational in many respects. People vote on feelings, they vote on impressions, judgements on individuals. Whether it's Brexit or the next PM, the principles are the same. Johnson's stock is falling. This story is playing a huge part in that.

Not stupid. I've never said anyone on here is stupid. Misdirected, perhaps. If government is a card trick there's too many people looking at the magicians wrong hand. And politics makes people bored so the Scriti Politi is now being ran along the same lines as the gutter press circa 1982 and sleaze sells so indignation has been weaponised.

The only people I know who ever seem to know what is going on in parliament are Greens now. No one else seems to be bothered with it.

I know what I want to say but not how to say it. Amazed that it’s a Christmas party of all the insidious things they’ve done, that’s caused the most outrage.

I can totally see where @space is coming from ref Johnson hanging in there and it all, more or less, blowing over. It’s like the Trump presidency; it’s one chaotic incident after another, keep moving, the news cycle shortens constantly.
I honestly think if we ever, say me with Trump and you chaps with Johnson, went back through all the scandals, the outbursts, the
‘fuck ups,’ we’d be stunned at just how much we’ve forgotten or forgotten pertinent details of.
