space Boots is a massive provider of pharmacy services to the NHS, there is a role for such services but there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed but I don’t think this GP thing is beyond that unless it devalues the role of a GP. The BMA need to be on this.

So long as the citizens of our country can continue to receive top class 'free' healthcare I am not that concerned how it is derived. The days of the single 'family' GP are on their way out. A lot of them are/were outdated with their knowledge of modern medicine. Time moves on.

I do however think such changes and restructuring could open the door to some form of charging. Maybe by priority bookings to begin with in GP surgeries.

If you cancel 24 hours before the appointment there's no charge (they give the appointment to someone else).
You cancel on the day or are a "no show " then your credit card gets charged.

I wouldn't be against charges for uncancelled/missed appointments (subject to the normal concessions). I would bet it's one of the major preventable costs in primary care (after legal costs for fuck ups etc).

Not sure about a standard charge for appointments though. They do that in Australia - isn't about £25 to see a Doctor or similar? No one screws about them doing it.

zico Yes it would be nice. Ive been in enough meetings at work where DNA's (thats did not arrive) have been discussed. The rates are unbelievable. A lot of effort going into testing, email etc to remind folk and it does work. But I am 100% in agreement with you Reg

I think these multiple practice contracts have been going for a while so they're not something that you can really shout at the Tories for.

Seeing as it should be an area of healthcare that shouldn't be making a corporate profit the Americans are moving in for speculatory reasons in the hope that future changes in policy make them money spinners... Getting a foot in the door and all that. Now that's a worry.

The only thing I could see stopping it is if you were going say to an hospital for an appointment, felt run down and had flu like symptoms, but thought I'm not paying the cancellation fee, I'll go to the appointment.
I've been into quite a few non A and E hospitals where there are signs which have boards which say "Please don't go any further, if you have felt unwell in the last 24 hours "
And that was pre Covid

heyho I can’t get through to our surgery at the best of times. Simple online booking or a good NHS app that gives you options of what type of appointment you want. Phone, zoom, in person. Currently it’s in the dark ages.

One of the issues though is not being joined up. Acute Trusts, Primary care, GP's etc etc

In my area, Cyber, I am just battling with the upper crusts in NHS D regarding serious cyber alerts. Oh just press a button and 1,300 servers, 14,000 pc's will magically be updated. Ermmm yes it can be but the NHS cant afford the tools. SO there are delays. And they dont like delays. Most these people making the decisions are fresh out of Uni and are fast tracking. theyve got some great ideas us old farts can listen and learn from. But they lack years of experience and that matters a lot

An anti Tory coalition is the only way, split the seats between the parties. Stand on a PR ticket, hold a new election as soon as is practical post victory.

England looks the pretty much the same as it always has to me.

As for PR? The last thing Labour will do is bring in PR if they get power. And as for coalitions? Tried that before - didn't work.

The apocalyptic "Last chance to..." etc hasn;t worked either.

What might work is , instead of just automatically shit sling over everything the Tories do, work out some policies, tell people about those policies, hold an election based on being positive about Labour and it's policies rather than relying on demonising the opposition. You know, treat the electorate like adults.
