At last I'm getting the musical demographic of OMJ; Leeds Warehouse, circa 1982, synth-pop madness, ruff collar shirts, kung fu shoes, crimped/angular hair, black eye liner? Fully expecting Soft Cell and Tubeway Army/Gary Numan albums to be crawling out of the woodwork, soon. Maybe even Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim? Obviously, for those not from Leeds and its environs, the club would be different but the same.

I'm putting it on at work later. Listened to a bit of the first track and found the bass line annoying. We shall see.

Discovered a band yesterday, the best band no one has heard of, might save them for my next go.

I'm struggling with this one. I have always hated extended versions of singles, even singles I liked. This is like having to sit through a load of extended 12inch 80s producer wankery.

Under-the-ground

This isn’t to bad. Nice and goes along at a steady pace. I like the live action one and when that bass jumps in for don’t you want me class.
Doesn’t set my world alight .

55 year old me put this track on while I was cleaning a load of bottles in the kitchen knowing that he would hate it.

A couple of tracks in, 16 year old me remembered dancing to a load of this in Belinda's in the winter of 1982/1983 and dancing with a girl who wasn't my girlfriend and being chucked on the way home to Armley by a girl who was.

Now? Not essential but interesting. 44/100.
Then? Soundtrack to a year in my life. 88/100.

I prefer the original tracks without the fannying. Yeh, ok in parts but all a bit Stars On 45. 5/10.

I like this. In particular the non-single tracks. Like a good remix he adds something new, allows the songs to breathe a bit more compared to the originals, probably even improves some.

Love the John Carpenter like start to Things That Dreams Are Made Of, the shonky dub of Do or Die and the drama of Seconds. I'd never heard Dare at all apart from the singles until recently - listened to it to get a sense of the originals and this album supports the idea that Oakey's voice was the weak link.

A good listen and a good choice 👍️ but not quite essential. 723/1000

Couldn't find a general thread on 'The League', so have piggybacked on this one.

I play the Dare album a lot across the year (and Love & Dancing even more).

I came across this video, and though it is my least favourite song of theirs, it does show how hard (and laborious) it was to make those kind of songs back then:
