Still only one loss so far. Through the first round of the Halifax League Collinson Cup.
The difference in their play and technique this season is massive. The lad's getting line and length right more often. Working on quickening it all up a bit.

Nice vibe around the club at moment even with break-ins of the tea hut on consecutive nights this week. Everything's stored in there until the new pavilion is finished. You can tell it was kids, they took the pop and sweets and left the beer!

Our friend's lad has made it through to Yorkshire's U12s. Captained them on his debut this week. Acemans.

Going back to @Anchor s picture of Old hill CC.

Was back at Xmas and my mum gave me a tie that I got when i played there.
Its covered in the logo of Cockspur Rum who then sponsored the National Club Cricket Cup ..

Played at Old hill in the semi final in 87 with East Bierley having won the Yorkshire championship, then knocked out the Scottish, Lancashire & Derbyshire champs

Played in front of 3000 people ... loud and disturbing Black Country accents ...Got given the thankless task of closing out 8 overs from one end whereas their 18 yr old ... ( Dean headley ) came on first change

All ended in tears, I was getting abuse from the crowd, grabbed a skier at mid wicket and screamed 'Fuck you' at the crowd, who didnt like my earrings and bleached crew cut 😁 bowled tidy but not fast as i could, , ... and lost with 3 balls to go . Missed out on the final at Lords .
They were a good side, Mushtaq Mohammed captained them and had plenty of minor counties players.
We had my mate Bradley Parker who played a bit at Yorkshire then Durham, Murphy Walwyn ( Keith's brother) Yorks keeper Andy ????? and a Worcs 1st teamer and a couple of minor leaguers.

There i a great picture in the bar of the West Indies playing there in the early 80's - the place is rammed.

I've read about Dean Headley up there also.

Played Lancashire and Cheshire League before I left home, second XI and half a season in the firsts. Serious stuff. I remember it all kicking off one time when the opposing captain was run out going for a fifth run, after the ball had crossed the boundary 😆.

After that it was ‘friendly’ cricket in Greenwich and Newcastle - social cricket with just enough competitiveness. Packed it in six or seven years ago due to a combination of work, others taking it too seriously and my body saying ‘Nah’.

I think some of the times I have been happiest have been in the field - say midwicket, or point - in a tight game, with the sun on your back. Great times. I’m gutted that both boys have shown no interest in the game.

I was never quite good enough to make the progression from school to league cricket - though i did have a couple of seasons of manning the scoreboard for Adel in the Aire/Wharf league until the delights of town on saturday night took over

CBIT When I was at school I was a decent enough medium-fast bowler but my later three years playing for teams in the Airedale-Wharfedale and Dales Council leagues were more than enough to prove that I wasn't up for that level. At the same time, I played in the Leeds City Council inter-departmental mid-week league. 20 overs a side, Wednesday evenings. I was shit-hot, comparatively, in that. The Education Department team had a wicket keeper who'd played for Sri Lanka before they got Test status. You can imagine how good he was in comparison to the rest of us. One evening I bowled my heart out, took 5 or so wickets for very few in my four overs. The keeper came to congratulate me afterwards, saying "you were getting up to a good medium pace there".
Best thing about my cricketing years in retrospect is that one summer when I was 15 I played maybe half a dozen games on the same team as my dad.

Sunday afternoons in the park while the pubs were shut were class. And lethal. Not too serious, but lethal. While pads were de riguer, boxes were very rare. Cue lads bent over double vomiting over the park wall when they caught a brisk one.

On our council estate, back in the '70s, we turned the bat upside down and played bowling against the thinner handle with a tennis ball.

We also used a tennis racket as a bat, but in the proper way, tapping the head of the racket rim on the side of our whizz-kid trainers.

Cooley they play kerbie round here. I never saw that as a child in Kent.

We had simple rules. Usual ways of getting out but also three 'gardeners' and you walked. Designated boundary for fours and sixes but a 1000 runs if you hit Garton's chimney. Never achieved.

Kerbie King 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981 round our way. Steven Ward took it in '78 as a) it was his ball and b) Cup Final was about to start. 1980, clashed with a week in Great Yarmouth.

oneallanclarke small world, i played in those wednesday night council inter- department games during the summer of 85 when i worked in the careers office at Merrion centre after being kicked out of college.
