What a difference a day makes. Had a proper wobble on Thursday night at Copley away. Out twice in an over. The fact he was facing a kid doing a decent Bob Willis impression didn't matter. Upset at the non-striker's end. Fighting back tears. Quiet word from one of the coaches.
The whole team were a bit down at the end.
Fast forward to last night's nets. Genius bit of work from the coaches. The older lot had the U9s first hard ball session.
They loved it. Best standard we've seen at nets. The boy was buzzing on the way home. I looked at what helmets and pads cost. Not so buzzing.....

Second season done.
Lost last night (some dodgy scoring in the view of a few), but finished third in the league. Main thing is the number that will be at nets tonight for more hard ball training, still enthusiastic and wanting to learn.
Big step up next year. Under 11s. Hard ball. You're out when you're out. To be honest, I think a lot of them will enjoy it more. Feels like 'real' cricket for them.
Now just the small matter of the kit shopping list....

I was 18 at the time. Steve Oldman played with us as well, so had to face him in the nets ... thought it was funny just to bowl bouncers at me. I obviously reciprocated 😁

Placid played really well. The nets have definitely paid off. Main thing is they enjoy it.
Social side is great since the new pavilion opened. It's rammed on a Friday night after training.

Rain stopped play. Well, it was more thunder, lightning and torrential downpour stopped play.
Friarmere CC away. A trip over the border for the second Halifax League game of the season.
Won the toss and batted. Then the heavens opened. The boy took one in the face. Didn't flinch, just casually strolled down the wicket. Good lad.
