18 months ago I approached Leeds Caribbean CC offering to set up their 5-8 year old cricket program. Why? Well, my theroy is that certain kids are not given the same access to cricket as middle class kids. If I could set up a junior cricket section in the inner city we could provide that facility, which is more accesible and welcoming.
I walked into a minefield of local politics plus a system of bueracratic innefficiences and systemic ignorance and reverse racism. From ACE and Devon Malcom who is the Afro Caribbean development person from ECB.
The club comitte and the local community around it have been absolutely brilliant. A bit wary at first but once they saw actions not words they bought in.
Last year we had 22 kids doing 5-8 year old cricket. Was a massive slog to get our name out there. Yorkshire Cricket Foundation were unbelivable in thir support.
