That girls in Yemen, where there is mandatory schooling for all kids, usually finish before high school in the villages. The reason for this is that most government schools are mixed at high school level and families don’t want their daughters going to high school in a co-ed environment. Also, its too dangerous to send them to the cities, and other reasons the diplomat was a little fuzzy about (Read: Religious dogma).
Bonus fact: International aid that is funnelled through UN agencies within Yemen, has 30%-40% syphoned off for their ‘expenses’ on running commercial projects. UN = FIFA I think…
