As with Suede, always have a couple of Buzzcocks tracks on my play list but can't listen to a full album as Pete's vocals, eventually, irritate. An essential band, though.

Odd choice given they'd released two proper studio albums before this. This was essentially a sampler of the already released singles for the US market, intended to break them in the US in '79. Wasn't released in the UK til two years later. The content is for sure essential, not so sure about the album itself though if you see what I mean. Visceral slices of pure spiky power pop, the longest clocking in at a shade over 3 minutes, exactly as it should be. Love the 'cocks (can I say that?), one of the essential chunks of punk.

By the way, I used to have Spiral Scratch, but it disappeared with a number of my other early punk records at the hands of an ex-girlfriend. Life, eh!

Under-the-ground

I struggled with this. Yes 2 classic singles & the rest just doesn’t grab me. I know they are important but they were one that just never connected to.
I will persevere. 6/10 for me
