Me and the bird are thinking of five days in Morocco at Easter. Easter is early again this year. End of March.

We've not been and want to imerse ourselves in the culture.

So recommendations.

I'm thinking of a few nights in Marakesh then a train to Taghazout (sp) for a few nights after reading this thread and Placids pics of his trips out there.

So flights are cheap to Agadir. You can get to Taghazout in 40 mins by taxi.

Essaouira 3 hours. (Can fly direct to Essaouira from Stanstead I think).

On this trip I flew into Agadir and out from Marrakech.

There are no train connections between Agadir, Essaouira and Marrakech. I think, and @Djpekingman might know better but think the train atarts at Casablanca and goes up to Rabat and Tangier.

Taxi from Agadir to Marrakech was £130 a nice chilled drive.

Travelling in Morocco is a culture shock. Once you get over the wild cats and dogs, the litter and the random Africanness of the place you can start to enjoy it. Its a fascinating place, extremely beautiful in many places. The cities are crazy..

We’re programmed by where we live, and UK and most of Europe is very ordered and follow common protocols and convenrion.

Moroccan people imo are very friendly. They will try and rinse you in the main but will be very friendly about it😂. Its like sport.

If you like food, cultureand history and dont mind a bit of chaos the its right up your strasse. Ive eaten street food and not got the shits btw. Avoid tap water.

Booze is less prevelant but there if you want it. Hash also.

Agadir
Taghazout
Marrakech

And I wouldnt stay in Agadir again. And possibly not Marrakech as Ive done it. Its certaiy is a place to be experienced. Its mental.

We flew to Marrakech from Alicante so that’s probably not much help, although I believe Ryanair also fly from the Uk to Marrakech.

Love Marrakech - there was some good natured hassling but nothing too pushy - generally a ‘no thanks’ was enough to send them hassling the next victims.

We used trains from Marrakech, to Casablanca, then on to Rabat and Fez finally ending up at the border crossing into Mellila at Nabor. They were very cheap, even for first class, clean and efficient.

We took a day’s bus tour from Fez to Chefchouan aka the Blue Village up in the Riff mountains which is well worth a visit. Great food accompanied by the pervading stench of fresh hashish everywhere.

We will return, probably to Marrakech from where we’ll head over the Atlas into the desert.

Placid’s and others have put me off Agadir, but I’ve heard good things about Essouaria.

Stayed here in Taghazout. Its basic and the steps up to it are a borderline death trap😂

But the view from there is best place Ive ever stayed at. So chilled.

@Anchor are you flying from Brum or East Mids?

You could fly into Marrakech for a few days of amazing madness and then to Taghazout for relaxed surfer vibe

Then fly back via Agadir

I can fly from anywhere really. East mids, Brum, Manchester preferable as I can get to them via trains so can fly back to any airport.

Photographically, Marrakesh offers endless opportunities and I loved it for that, but the people? Nah, not very nice in my opinion. Everybody is looking to take/ make what they can from you at every given opportunity (its tiring). Nothing is ever as it seems, so you need to be on guard. I enjoyed it for what it is, but you could never really be fully at ease I didn’t feel.

Agadir is not worth visiting, as said, go up the road to Tagazout.

All in all, it was good to experience the place, quite fascinating, but won’t be going back. Lots of other places in the world to see without the associated hassle.

I think a couple of days in Marrakech then down the coast would be mint.

Must admit it felt safe for women but I wouldnt bring my wife there at our age, it would do her head in. It is tiring but once you get dialled in you can rise above it a bit. Took me a few days to not want to fight people😂

Placid Yes, my partner didn’t like the place at all and she is very well travelled, ex cabin crew. We narrowly missed being robbed when lost in the Kasbah (not my best idea). We were being followed by two blokes who sent us the wrong way and she was panicking, my heart rate was up too it has to be said. We got out thankfully as a group of women turned up right next to us.

Me humming ‘’Rock the Kasbaah, Rock the Kasbah’’ every 2 minutes didn’t help the mood much.

Never had any grief on my own or with Mrs YP in the medina neighbourhoods.
If you look anxious people sense it . Smile, be polite, resepctful, learn how to say hello in arabic .. spent a day shopping in the markets in Marrakech and it was all very friendly. Speaking french helps.
