Amorim has been very poorly advised, and has basically shot himself in the foot. He should have stayed at Sporting, won the league again and done bits & pieces in the CL.
His stock would've risen further, and he'd then have taken Sporting as far as he could've done. Come the summer, I reckon a few of the top table table teams make approaches, possibly Barca.
Instead, he's rolled up at shitsville, and embarked on a project that needs at least 5 seasons & more than £500m (possibly £1bn) to sort out, and only has about 18 months. Look at Chelsea under Boehly as a guide; £1bn spent and two seasons in, and they're just starting to be consistently competitive.
He'll be back into to portugal at someone like sporting braga or a lower mid table spanish side soon enough.
