I read someone saying that this is good to take their kids to watch as you don’t get the drunkenness, vulgarity and violence as with the mens game. Maybe I’m getting old, but I agree.

Much as I'd have liked them to win, I always want any British team to do well, I didn't watch any of it. Much as Women's soccer has improved, it's still not good unless you can form an emotional attachment and I cannot. The only emotion I've had raised was irratation by the BBC's hyperbolic reporting on Radio 4, "the greatest achievement by an England team since the men won the World Cup in 1966." Which is fucking nonsense.

What is the consensus on Rubiales? Is he privileged predator or misunderstood man child? I'm still trying to make my mind up about the whole thing. When it happened I thought, hmm that's new but she was smiling over her face so it's ok right? Clearly for a lot of people, it's not.

doggybag Course she was smiling, she'd just won the world cup. Then some Spanish spoiled man child comes along and smacks one on her straight on the lips. That can never be right and he should have known better. But there's a serious gender violence thing going off in Spain. Spanish women in general are nippy and high maintenance, but the men are spoiled mummy's boy who chuck the rattle out of their pram when they don't get their own way, which leads to the violence. The unsolicited snog is just the tip of the iceberg.

I get that she was well happy about winning but still, it being such a big deal in Spain, I would have expected at least a look of surprise. I think he even slapped her butt as she walked away. He shouldn't have done it, that's a given. I just found the storm around it quite hard to understand as, at the time it was done, imho, no one who mattered seemed to be that bothered. In the end, it's his fault so I'm voting with the ladies. If he hadn't done what he did we wouldn't be here now. He'll have to resign or he'll end up being sacked.

doggybag There's some serious backlash coming out in Spain now. The Spanish FA are threatening to sue the players who are refusing to play while the serial butt fondler is in office and are saying they have a legal obligation to play when called up by the lady's FA. They are all men. It's quite representative of much of the macho culture present throughout Spain. The dickheads that run Vox for example promised to roll back all the anti gender violence and equality laws that have recently been passed as a result of the rampant gender violence in Spain - the number of women killed by their partners, spouses or even randoms in Spain is quite astonishing.

In the aftermath, the winning jockey was pounced on by the owners wife. I'd say she was 20 years older.
He was grabbed + given a big smacker on the lips. Young lad looked a little embarrassed.
If there is no harm in that, then surely this has been blown out of proportion.

I think the issue is that the actions are symptomatic of a wider issue rather than in and of themselves. Several of their best players weren’t at the world cup because of their unhappiness with the culture around the set-up, and pretty much the whole squad seemed to be there under sufferance. The fact that they won in such a dysfunctional situation speaks volumes for their quality.

Rubiales looks an absolute full-weight. Arrogance and entitlement.

Before he kissed her she had run up to him, put her arms around him and lifted him off his feet. When put in context it didn't look to be the one sided liberty that the still image depicted, but still, he shouldn't have done it. But when all is said and done I think a man losing his fucking job over it is a bit of an over-reaction.

space There's a lot more behind this than you see. There are many ladies who won't play under the current regime due to its patriarchal nature. It is an issue in Spain and it has to change.
