When my daughter started her business she was promised that her UC would carry on for 12 months - she just declares how much she earns each month and it gets adjusted. Within a few weeks after the election she gets a phone call and is told that she must take an income from the business. The business model is that she receives income every few months in lump sums and after putting money aside for the PAYE employees and the rent for the premises there hasn't been enough left to have any wages - but she has more sign ons and will be able to get a wage by the end of September. All of which the UC people knew and were OK with at the start. Now they say that on the months this money arrives in the business bank account she must pay herself a wage first. She explained that if she did this then she would have to either sack her staff or fold the business but they said then she would have to do this.
There was a long series of conversations where the people on the end of the phone showed they hadn't a fucking clue of the difference between income and profit. They didn't care. We have had to end up giving her the last of our savings so she can keep going for 3 more months.
They're cunts. And although they've previously been cunts this time round they didn't fucking care about the situation, they were just doing the same thing as an insurance loss adjuster - like they had a target to hit on saving money.
Sorry but I said this would happen. Labour won't fix Universal Credit and the benefits system. They'll just squeeze it and answer complaints by saying "It's not our fault, it's the Tories". Same as they did with the Child Support Agency last time round. Why fix something when you can milk it for votes for at least another term?
