We won the cup, eeeee iiiiiiiadio, then went to Leeds to watch Man Utd put 11 men behind the ball and end our 7 game perfect start to the season. The sulky smiler came with us, a Man Utd fan.

I love the rag tag kits, it didn't matter. Green shirts and anything else you could find. Our first chance to play team football. Loved it. I only went to cubs for the summer football season. I got kicked out in winter for being a cheeky shit. I behaved in summer.

6 of that team, were still at junior school a year later and were starters in Halifax's best ever U11s team (don't know if there has been better since).The village school had around 32 boys in each year group, and 6 of them played for Halifax schools. Crazy eh?

Silver Jubilee party 77 in the school field at the back of our estate. I had been in the fancy dress competition as a tramp beforehand. I was a bit obsessed with tramps after I had seen one once out on a walk with my dad and he'd told me he was a "tramp" . Seemed a compelling lifestyle out on the peripheries of society.

fuzzy I wanted to be a tramp at one point. Had my ginnel picked out where I thought I could live. Used to see the old tramps keeping warm by the heaters in Crossgates library, reading the papers. There was one I used to see getting fed at the convent. Seemed a decent life.
I’d forgotten about it until I bumped into an old friend’s mum one day and she asked how I was getting on. Told her what I was up to and she laughed and said, ‘So you never got to be a tramp then?’ I must have looked puzzled as she explained in great detail how I’d had it all mapped out when I was about 7 or 8.
