No jury's in Japan, probably wouldn't let forrins do it anyway. Oh, and a 98.7% conviction rate at trial. They tried, but people don't like getting involved and having a say in things like that, doubting authority, leave it to the rozzers. Probably why we just had a guy come off death row, after 38 years, where a new DNA report proved he didn't do it. 38 years of not knowing if the next day is your last. They don't tell you in Japan, just knock you up at 5 am, after telling your family the night before. Still, did okay, 38 years, could have been worse..
