Waiheke island. Pretty, lots of perfectly formed vineyards, totally sanitised, some gorgeous properties, very expensive. Totally revolves around tourists, mostly day trippers off the cruise ships which explains why the 18:30 ferry back to Auckland was almost empty. You'd be bored shitless living here.

Arrived in Pukenui in our motorhome. It’s some drive. Tomorrow we head to Cape Reinga, 90 mile beach and the giant sand dunes before heading south.

Some cracking scenery on the way up, but my battery died so no pics. Reminiscent of Scotland, The Cheviot, ireland and the Carribbean in a few hours.

Djpekingman magical up there. I got a hire car stuck in the sand around a cafe near the beach, after an overly long access lane from the main road. Stayed at Carrington Estate up at Karikari.

Misura Ha, nearly did the same in a big fuckoff motorhome. Just sank into what looked like good sold sand. Managed to extricate it before got in too far.

The Coromandel Peninsula. I have to say, the scenery is pretty impressive. Much like the lakes on a really hot summers day. Still keeps lashing it down though.

Hot Water beach. Hot water wells up from below. You can dig into the sand to create hot water pools. Best seen at low tide. We were there at high tide. The effect could still experienced in the river though.

Hell's gate geothermal park as christened by George Bernard Shaw. A magmatic hotspot just beneath the surface give rise to pools of boiling acidic sulphurous water and mud, mud volcanoes, geysers, bubbling cauldrons of acid and other such pleasantries.
