TOP 10 CHIPPIES Travesty!!! Who fucking judges these things.....'Organic cod'... 'well designed menus'[quote]The winner of the 21st national Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition will be announced on January 22 at a ceremony hosted by the chef Simon Rimmer in London.Last year, for the first time in the competition’s history, entrants were judged on their commitment to building a sustainable future for the industry. I've gone right off that one at five lane ends BLB. young lad frying was more engrossed with his texting than battering. good fun trying to work out the back antlers on the young staff though.in days of old, when barney was bold and the stonecrusher's Fiat Uno was dented - a good one was that one up past Wellington School with the iron railing in it. Well it was when en route from the Milners to the Green Man. Milners; with Gold label lager. just like the White Hart and the Horse and Farrier...

Petergate Fisheries in York - My 1st swimmer and jockeys experience in 3 years.. Fish (Haddock) / no Cod on offer +1 for that - 8/10Batter - 6/10 - a bit flakey but cooked in beef fat..Chips - 9/10 - spot on - chunky, soft in middle, crispy to the bite! Teacake - 7/10 - they'd used Flora and not butter or even better dripping.Lingo - 10/10 - asked for "twice love" and she knew what I wanted without need for further confirmation.Customer Service - 10/10 - didn't try to cross sell me a drink or peas, did ask, "scraps wid that?"There's a Willy Hills across the road and the owner kept nipping out to check his bets regailed in batter splattered jeans and gold Rolex. This obviously added to the overall ambiance of the place. Lots of locals in there as well, distinct lack of poorly dressed Yanks asking the way to Lie'sester Square. Portions were too big for the slosh, so managed to get myself 1 and 1/2 portions at one sitting.

Went to Grandma Pollard's in Walsden today, very good. Great flavour to the batter, and tasty fresh haddock.

Jesus wept.If you want to have a poncy fish(y) restaurant - then have one; just don't be calling it a fish & chip shop.If you're going to the chippy then get yer fishcake; chips; mushys (with scraps) - drown them in Sarson's and get in to them.I reckon; If its called a SHOP; you go in buy something and leave with it. If you're sitting down to eat; its a restaurant. Different animal completely.

Address: Neptune's, Seahouses (Just by the harbour)Portion size: Fish - Small(ish), Chips - PlentifulCost: Average - About £8 odd for two fish and a portion of chipsFish: 2/10Chips: 7/10Would've thought it'd be fresh and lovely being right by the harbour. However, the batter was so hard I could've used it to bludgeon someone, and the fish inside was dry and cold at the tail end. I was extremely disappointed that in a town that is by the sea and has about 10 fish shops/restraunts, we ended up with one that was a real let down.I have given it two points as the middle part, which was still warm was quite flavorsome. The chips weren't bad at all but in general I would give this place a miss if you're in the area.
