When grew up everyone drank bitter or ale That changed for me when following Leeds all over the country in the 70'sPeople would be arguing about which pubs to go in because of their ale affiliations .usually Tetleys London was a particularly bad day because every one hated the bitter in London I think there was one Tetley pub down there so if possible we would head for that More often then not the night was spent trying to find a pub with decent ale in .I & a few others started drinking lager it was the same everywhere & a lot less hassle eventually Bitter drinkers were in the minority
