I'd play tough, with a view to sell in January. The only downside to that approach is a possible sulky player.

Any deal involving Rapha should be the same, we may never see all the money if they decide to ‘do a Bates’ and a debt-clearing administration excercise.

Let’s be honest in an ideal world Phillips stays and we’d all agree we’re probably 10 million light on the deal.
But we all knew he was off this summer and wasn’t likely to be hanging around playing in a mid/bottom end PL team which unfortunately is where we’re at for now.
I can deal with the fact he’s gone to probably the best club team in the world and hopefully develop even further under Guardiola rather than take another 10/15m to see him donning a red shirt a la Ferdinand and Smith.
No disrespect Cordshoes.
Generally it looks like a deal that suits all parties, but let’s see who comes in now.

Raposa @CBIT bought at a different phase no ? Nothing wrong with investment buys but we're looking at bring in almost like for like here ...
Hopefully the lad Roca will have an impact but its probably going to take time for him. I'd say we need a central midfielder who can come in straight away and boss a game, Guimares at the Geordies was a great buy and around the same price.

Alioski has become a free agent, (Al-Ahli Saudi Arabia relegated) not normally one for players coming back, but would make an exception.

Not really bothered to be honest. He was always moving on. He's not some home grown talent that we've had forever. No-one had heard of him when he signed - how much was he, £17 million? He's a very good player but not irreplaceable. Take the money.

Fair play though, we had 2 good seasons off him . Did his bit in keeping us up.
