There seems to be a lot of rose tinted spectacles regarding keepers at Leeds.
Martyn was a great keeper but also prone to some horrors - the Southampton game which finished 4/3 to Leeds stands out as an example.
Lukic was affectionately known as Dracula due to his fear of crosses. There used to be collective shitting of ourselves whenever the opposition floated a corner or free kick into the box.
Robinson, although technically superb was a gobshite and indeed still is, which is why he never really dominated at the top level with any club.
Schmeical was a midget with a father complex, especially when his dad got dogs' from the crowd. Another one where there was a sharp intake of breath everytime there was a corner.
Harvey was more reliable than Sprake but never as good.
Sprake on his day was superb, but prone to howlers.
Merv the Swerve - popular but not very good.
Green - like a proto Pickford but not as lucky/good.
Lonnie Donnergan - perhaps the worst keeper ever seen in a Leeds shirt.
Mark Beeney - shite
Casper Ankeregen - average at leaggue 1 level
Bailey Peacock Farrell - too many names and a head to big to get between the sticks.
Kiko Casilla - ranged from brilliant to Lonnie Donergan - kept you guessing as to who would turn up on any given day. Nutter.
Paddy Kenny - Past his sell by when we got him, but did alright at that level
Silvestri - dog shit
Jesus we've gone through some keepers. That's just the ones I remember - that's a stack of other bit part players who were also invariably shite.
Compared to what we've I'd say Meslier stands up pretty well. Did we not pay something like 5 mil for Martyn? Which at the time was one hell of a lot. He'd cost 50 mil upwards in today's market. There's no way we're ever getting that kind of level. Be thankful for what we've got. You're not going to get much better. Mes is only a kid and his stuff like box commandment and confidence at crosses will only improve. In our market you're not going to get better, despite what fucking all that XG shite says.
