At their lowest market value, I put it at a collective £45m. That's £180m spending power for new players on 4 year contracts. So it's far from peanuts or just shrug it off and say it's OK. It isn't. It's serious money. The fans are being charged to make up the shortfall.

As to blame? Successive recruitment depts, it's seems like we've been shite at selling players for forever.

The total Piroe package is now being reported as worth £12m, inclusive of the loan, if Joel's move to West Ham becomes permanent. The obligation fee is understood to be £8m and the loan is £4m (which is what the would have paid on a 1st instalment on a perm deal for Troy Parrot). Looks good biz to me. Wish him well, him Bowen and Solomon, they'll win the league..

See, I think that's shocking business. I go back to Sargent, Norwich got a £20m permanent deal from an MLS side who are statutory limited in spend, for a striker with 53 goals in 6 championship seasons . We manage a paltry £12m (promotion dependent) from cash rich West Ham for a striker with 74 goals in 3 championship seasons. It's fucking pathetic imo.

What about wages?
I’d be stunned if Piroe wasn’t on a far higher salary at Leeds than Sargent was at Norwich… maybe even double.
Same with Bamford who was apparently the clubs highest earner when we terminated his contract.
Surely you have to factor in the financials when deciding what fee, if any, to accept when letting a player go?
Id agree a lot of the historical deals you mention look piss poor from a transfer fee perspective but in the scheme of things it may have been in the clubs best interests at the time.
I’d say this summer the club have been very astute in the market, they’ve discarded a lot of dead wood whilst freeing up the wage bill and brought in 4 quality upgrades with possibly more to come.
