Very gracious reply, MAC. I erred in misreading the tone of your remark. That said, I admire wit, intelligence, and creativity (don't we all on OMJ?) and it seems to me that Fry has loads of all that. And I'm not impressed by his talents just because he's a Norfolk dumpling. But he does exude a certain classiness (and I mean that in the political sense), so I can understand why he gets up some people's noses (or other orifices, if you prefer).

Some of the stuff Fry has appeared in over the years is absolute class, I can understand someone disliking his real personality but he has been brilliant more than a few times in his career.

He was also in the dreadful Alfresco , generally plays himself in films and did a self indulgent trip round the US for TV.

I went there in 78, nice place. Very odd though, they used to put the away fans in the Barclay End right next to their 'end'. there was all these fences and chicken wire and all the locals foaming at you on the other side. But outside before, nothing -they were dead nice. And after the game, they all just wandered out and were nice again.

Thats Norwich. Nice. And awful fish and chips.

That away end where you were separated, remember last game of the season 85/86. Leeds fan in a kilt, scaled the fence and lagged all over the Norwich fans. Pleasant.

Seem to remember Brian Greenhoff had just signed for us from Man U....or was that a different game?
Awful journey on the Wally Trolley and you're dead right,you couldn,t buy a fight there!

1978-79 we evened it up with a 2-2 at Elland Road.

In its heyday before seating the Barclay Stand was a weird and wonderful place inhabited by the Barclay Boys whose fierce loyalty and piss-taking ability are legendary.

You seem a nice enough fella pip, but I don`t want a load of old toffee from you. Fry was always game, challenged Kevin Keelan to a cock fight in his late teens (no pun intended), Keelan bottled it.

He blended into our escort at Carrow Road in 1980 and got away with it, just like Pennant did in 1982 at WHU. You see lads like that always blended in easily at Leeds. Whether you were an eight feet tall Cambridge graduate or a Caribbean kid from East of London, we could never suss you.

You see Leeds fans love everyone and always did, seriously. ;)

Confusing here as well. We beat them 5- something in the 3rd round of 'glorious cup run' of 77. ER was cold, empty and about 13 Norwich who made the journey looked a bit depressed.

I bet the fish and chips cheered them up though as another 10 came the season after.

Sure you're on about the right game? There was only 28k there that day, I remember freezing my bollocks off in the Lowfields. Mind you, you lot in the Kop always did huddle together.. :D

There was always some clown like that at games like that. That was my only trip to Norwich in that era, mind you it was better than the one to Ipswich where we made the mistake of going on the Wally Trolley and the coach got nicked when the divs did the shop at Grantham Services (on the way there.. :rolleyes: ) . Luckily plod were equally dumb and forgot to look on the roof. Very surreal watching copies of Fiesta and little snowstorms fly off the back of the coach and hit cars behind as we sped down the A1. Just crazy guys... and you wonder how they make it out on their own.
