I've somehow been talked in to a bike race tomorrow morning. Against a steam train. On my cheap mountain bike. How can I get out of it without sounding like a wuss?

I called in sick. Glad I did. My mate just texted - "Felt like a fat French peasant caught up in a elite group of the tour de france".It was advertised as "all abilities", but I'm guessing the only people who'd try to beat a train from Keighley to Oxenhope are the type who shave their legs.

Cuts
Experimented with various positions on the cleats today. Amazing how much a little difference can make. I fell off, well, fell over attached to the bike at the end of our street waiting for a guy to make a right turn. Pride hurt that's all. Happy to report after 25 miles no more pins and needles in my foot.
