Just done Uppermill and Greenfield via Marsden. Right fucking slog getting over to the other side. Steady tap coming back with a serious tailwind.Sixty miles, decent morning out.
Travis_Bickle
Pal lives round there, was in Uppermill, now at Dobcross. Some great trails along the tops and the Marsden Moor descent is a cracker.Back on a real back this weekend now little one is with us. Haven't decided what type yet. Probably need the 'road' miles as my sponsorship form for the Etape Du Dales landed in the inbox yesterday. Remind me why again?

I'm going to do the Coast to Coast this year if anyone fancies it.Doing it low key in two days.
Travis_Bickle
Just finished washing the bike after the first 'real' bike ride in what felt like weeks (I'd been strictly on the spin bike only until James made an appearance).Towpath to Copley and then the climb through the woods. Passed a couple of blokes having a breather. Felt good as that was me not that long ago.Not sure why, maybe time off the bike, but felt really quick going downhil. According to Strava I took 2 mins off the Norland Moor downhill. Rode back to Brighouse but wanted a bit longer so went to Judy Woods.Good to be back out. Have to get some miles in. Still not sure I'll be ready for the Etape Du Dales in May. I'll do the C2C FD. PM some dates etc.
Foxy_Dread
Dates wise i'm easy, just need some notice. If you can do it on a couple of week days that would be even better, but not vital, just helps with my work.

Went out for first time today since getting the turbo trainer back in November. Slow going with the wind and rain and hills (and last nights Guinness didn't help) but really enjoyed it so that's the turbo trainer getting packed away now till next winter. Set off from Clayton and took the usual route up Baldwin Lane up into Queensbury, not a long hill but it's a miler when it starts only half a mile after you've set off. Met my mate at Raggalds and went through denholme and then up and down into Oxenhope. The fast downhill stretch had me shaking a couple of times due to not being out in road for so long, you can't fall off on the Trainer....Out of Oxenhope and took the Hebden Bridge road across the tops. Wind and rain made it hard work, it's a long way up there in the best of days. Fast descent then into Hebden Bridge and the long flat road to mytholmroyd. Those of you that know the area will know where we were heading. Cragg Vale. The wind and rain were again in our faces but we ground our way the 5 miles to the top, albeit very slowly. I've done Cragg Vale a few times now and to be honest don't find it that difficult, although the fact that I'm probably in the bottom 5% in Strava for it explains why. At the top we turned right and rode over to Hollingworth Lake, just outside Rochdale. We had a coffee in the small cafe there. The place was heaving, apparently they are open Christmas Day in there due to it being so busy. We stayed in there chatting for nearly an hour, much longer than we'd intended to stop, so when we came back out again it was bloody freezing. We took the road from the lake into todmorden. The wind seemed to be taking the piss as when we were going downhill we were still having to put plenty of effort in to keep moving. From todmorden we set off again towards Hebden Bridge, that's a much longer road than you realise !! There were some roadworks at one point with traffic lights and cones where only one narrow lane was open. The lights turned to red as we approached and we stopped behind a couple of cars in front. When the lights changed the cars in front set off with my mate just behind them. As we approached the narrow section I moved across away from the kerb so that the transit can behind me wasn't tempted to try squeeze past me. The cunt in the van must have noticed what I was doing and he accelerated, and forced me into the kerb, nearly knocking me off my bike !! I carried in behind him cursing as I followed. How pleased was I when as we left the roadworks, a police car passed me and put his flashing lights on. It probably took half a mile before the vann driver even noticed the police car behind him and pulled over. They were quite a way in front of us when they stopped so by the time we reached them the policeman was already out if his car. I wasn't certain so I asked him if he had stopped him for nearly knocking me off my bike. "Yes" he said "I'll be having a long chat with him". I left them to it but was really pleased at the fact the police had seen it and did something about it, even if it was only a quick telling off. We carried on towards Luddenden where the plan was to do Stocks Lane but somehow missed the turning and continued on to Halifax. We didn't miss it deliberately but I think we were both secretly pleased that we had. We left Halifax via the Keighley Road and took a left up Ovenden Road, which by this stage felt like we were doing Stocks Lane anyway. At the too we continued up towards the Moorlands Inn and took a right towards Ned Hill Road. Another steep one which I wasn't certain I was going to get up today but I'm proud to say I made it. From the top of Ned Hill the road takes you back down to the Raggalds pub and then we headed back up to Queensbury lights where my mate headed off home to brighouse and I took a left back down to Clayton. Four and half hours to do 54 miles, no records broken and it was a hard ride. But no point taking it easy when we've got the Coast to Coast coming up. But if I can do what I did today after 6 pints of Guinness last night, I'm sure if I keep off the beer throughout June, 150 miles in one day shouldn't be a problem ????

Jelous of you chaps right now. More of the white stuff forecast for tonight. Had a total of 4 foot of snow so far this winter in our town. I don't mind snow but miss the bike riding.

Lovely stuff LBB. I could picture every bit of that route. And nobody would blame you for swerving Stocks Lane, they did the National Hill Climb on there a while back. Plenty of 'up' on the route you did take mind. The descent when you turn right at the top of CV is a quick one.
under_the_arches
Good read that. The secret on long rides. Nice & steady. With those hills you will piss the coast to coast. I am currently planning my next 200k 'er for the end of the month.
Placid
Top work LBB, if you're in the bottom 5% on strava I'm practically dead. Inspired me to ride to work today all of 4 miles
Foxy_Dread
Did my longest ride of the year yesterday, just 44 miles, largely flat only 1400 feet of climbing. Wanting to get some easy miles in to get me on track for the 5000 miles this year. Found it a tough ride as I set off quite late without my lights so was under pressure to kick on to finish before dark, managed it but I was knackered all of last night.4845 to go.
Young_Marxist_at_Tescos
Holme Moss again today. From 'the other side' Convinced if I stick at this game long enough I'll get a day with no wind. Fifty one miles feels like 150. I'm getting old...
