You've popped my nostalgia bubble, cricket field was the wrong side of the village, only really went over there to visit the gas pond looking for frogs and taddies.

My best bike (a Boardman Team Hybrid) has gone in for his drop bars. I hope for christ he does a good job on him, as it has meant replacing the brake levers, brake calipers & gear shifters.I went for the bar end shifters option & brake levers option ala a touring bike (and it was cheaper). I will pick it up hopefully Wednesday or Tuesday. It better be worth the bastard hastle & expense!

Not been in, if you are wondering whether to go give I Luv White a shout, he's been and will have heard how it's doing as well. I was told when it first opened it was a big heavy with young children on a weekend, though don't know if thats still the case.

Reckon I've sufficiently conquered the man-flu to get out tomorrow for the first time in nearly two weeks! And just in time for the weather to get worse, well wind-wise, blowing a right one here today. I'm going to give that CX bike I borrowed a stab I reckon.

I finally know what my 29er is for. Found some beauty downhills near me. Top ride today. Bit hairy at times. Trav, used Ed's and your advice of look ten yards in front dont look down etc..Working a route out that includes Calyton Woods quarry next time. Loving the biking at the moment.

Chin up, elbows out and bent, knees are your suspension.Next step is to start 'pumping' the trail. Weighting and unweighting the bike. Sounds a bit wank and takes a bit to get it but when you do you fly! Compress into a turn. Steer with your belly button and then unweight and push out of the turn. Eyes and head turning ahead of the bike.It really works.

Found some good roads new us that loop through some well posh housing with little traffic. Reckon I can make a good loop of 12 miles or so all within a 10 minute car drive so the Mrs can find me if anything goes wrong. All I need now is the weather to cooperate.

Out twice this weekend.40k Saturday morning & 60k yesterday afternoon. Feeling a bit more positive about this london paris thing.Take it easy in the week & will be doing a nice flat ride 200k'er on sunday, which will take something out of me. Also hoping my good bike has been turned into a nice drop bar'er?

I got my bike back yesterday, and after a bit of fettling in the garage is nice. A dear do, but well worth it.I took him for a spin round the block, felt a lot more responsive & faster, plus much more comfortable. Moral of the story, dont by any bike that isnt drop barred!

Did the 200k Sunday as planned. But didnt finish!started at 0700, and was greeted with a glorious morning, First 60miles was a breeze in about 4.5hours, despite 2lots of hale.Had some fish & chips in the middle of the cotswold (bourton on the water) then the next 12miles where hell. 1.5hours with atleast 4 2mile plus climbs with a headwind and more hale showers.managed to get to Tewkesbury for four oclock. We still had about 45miles to go. Made the next control to Newent in Gloucestershire, but I was hanging then.Managed to do another 12miles where I knew her in doors could pick me up. Anyway after the phone call went out (to a not very happy life partner) she picked me up a half past 6. I felt rotten!Still on the plus side 116miles, in but I still had another 25ish miles left. The ride was longer than 200k, but it didnt tickle my fancy in the dark with some more climbs at 10% along a very busy A48 home. It is meant to be enjoyable.
