I think I could get into this type of cycling. Stopped for Fish and Chips. Love it.

On a Planet X. Whatever people think of their bikes, they're good at the old promo stuff.

On the Altura stuff that blokes wearing.....I was asked to go to a house a couple of weeks ago to do a 'report' on some joinery works which have been done there which the house owner isn't happy with. (can't really say any more on that). I was told that when I arrived at the gates to ring the bloke on his mobile number and he would open the gates and let me in. When I phoned, the bloke answered and said he would see me in 2 minutes, he was just in the 'gatekeepers lodge'. He came to the gate, let me in and told me to follow him. He climbed in to his Range Rover Sport and i followed....After about 1/4 mile we parked up (next to his Porsche) and he showed me into the 'house'. I've seen some nice places but this was in another league. It was a stately home type place which he is having completely renovated. Just him and his wife, they bought it a couple of years ago apparently but have only just recently moved in. Mid 40's, no kids.Great fellow, very friendly and polite, i imagine if I'd met him away from his house I'd have had no idea of his wealth.Less than 20 years ago, he was a shop assistant in a small bike shop, the shop owner was retiring and asked him if he wanted to keep the shop going....he said "yes'. Through what seems like sheer hard work and long hours, he has now become the sole importer to the UK for Altura, Cat eye lights and numerous other brands.Don't like to say too much as it seem's intrusive, but I've been told that due to the increased interest in cycling over the last few years, he has money coming in quicker than he can spend it..I've only spent an hour with the bloke, but drove away from there just thinking "well done pal".He had a dog, without exaggerating, he could leave his front door on a Sunday morning, walk the dog for 2 hours, and return home without even leaving the garden...

and only just realised who 'that bloke' in the picture is ?Did you ride up Cragg Vale with him ?
Travis_Bickle
I was working. And I'm still not back on the bike yet. Throat and lungs are fucked. No voice which can be a problem in my line of work......

This love in for the Cragg Vale Climb gets me, it's a good job the riders do their home work or they'd be wondering when it was coming five miles after they'd rode it.

Yes there are a couple of places where it appears to be downhill, eyes and tricks perhaps but I'm not convinced.

Started having a blast on a turbo for the first time.it has finally dawned on me I better start actually train rather than just ride my bike! Not to boring with the iPod on and some sonic cathedrals blasting in the ears.

LBB, I was enjoying that until you said he had a Porsche. Hopefully it was for his wife.Went out for a walk today. Does that mean I have to join in on the other thread.
Foxy_Dread
I'll be about for a ride next weekend, sunday preferred if you want to sort something TB.

No cycling at all for me this weekend, but on my way to the tip I saw probably the coolest cyclist I have ever seen. The fellow who was in the autumn of his years looked like a Cambridge lecturer out for a spin. A full tweed suit, m&s shirt (old school style) with brown clarks, and he was on an old holds worth hand built bike, with a caradice saddle bag on the back. Nice

On for Sunday. Spin up Cragg Vale? Stocks Lane out of Luddenden if you're feeling brave.....or masochistic.I've had a few weeks off so I'll be working on my pushing technique. Plenty to have a go at. Have to sort the road bike out. I'll PM you later in the week for times etc.
Foxy_Dread
Don't mind where, not upto stocks lane at the moment, if you fancy some easy miles thats fine by me or local is good too.
