He must have about 6 or 7 bikes at the moment. A Buell. One of those Triumphs with a fucking car engine in it. A Harley, a Benelli, a couple of Japanese crotch rockets and a Motor Guzzi. Used to race in the Isle of Man TT.Three years ago last week he had major surgery taking out a tumour along with his rectum and the left side of his colon. 9 hour operation and then his body kind of gave up towards the end of chemotherapy. Thought he'd developed bone cancer at one point. He got the inevitable colostomy reversed in 2012 and we found out recently that he's in remission.Riding with his pal to Italy in Summer for a tour of the Motor Guzzi factory. You won't meet a better bloke, will be a special trip for him and he deserves every second.

What you up to?We're doing the Gorple Road route. Up round Widdop, Hurtswood and the like. Big loop above HB and Tod. Going to piss it down again apparently.
Bielsa’s_Bucket
I went up past Widdop Reservoir last week for first time. Beautiful up there. Was supposed to be doing same route again tomorrow plus Cragg Vale, ripponden new bank and stocks lane but the lad I was doing it with has cancelled tonight. So I'm heading in opposite direction and hoping to get to Leyburn and back. Rain and wind may spoil my plans though, not looking good :/

I dont think you can get a 32t on a road bike, without swapping the dueraillier. (however you spell it!) I have got a 30t on the back of mine, and that manages most things. My legs usually give up before that anyway!
Travis_Bickle
Most modern rear mechs will get across a 32t MTB cassette. Or so some more technically-minded people tell me.....Part of me thinks the MTB and slicks is the way forward. I know the bike and it 'fits'. Could borrow an expensive Trek Madone with loads of nice kit but it's probably a bit too small and the last thing I want is a bike that makes me ache where I shouldn't if you know what I mean?

There won't be anything left if Elland was anything to go by.Got there about 10.30. All the large size mens base layer stuff had gone bar one piece I got and that was what I was after. The cycling shirts are great for £15. Didn't really need one but can always use a spare. They don't look much but I've some that are years old and have washed better than 'proper' brands. You know the country has Tour fever when grannies are pushing you out of the way by a bin full of arm warmers.........

Pair of silly bastards. Especially that one who takes both hands off to remove his cap.Sometimes jump the back of a bus for half a mile or so, but you know they'll be pulling over and you've got a way out.
Travis_Bickle
When we were kids a bloke would hang around near Lawnswood on his bike waiting for the limited stop buses or those that were out of service and going to the garage at St Chad's. He'd draft them all the way down Otley Road. Used to get crazily close to the back. I think some of the drivers booted it to get him going even quicker.Short blast today, 30km or so. Have been doing daily sessions on the spin bike. Etape Du Dales in 2 weeks! Shit!

Shit out going down a hill near Tony Soprano's home - well the house they use at the beginning of the show anyway - rutted and washed out with gravel. I put a few photos on Twitter but they didn't do it justice. Really felt heavy and knacked yesterday. If I did 15 miles I'm been kind to myself. Even got off and pushed for the first time in over two years.

Did my first night training last night. Set off at 8 and got back at 11.20. I was certainly rueing the 3 beers I had in the garden in the afternoon. I felt rotten on the first climb and really suffering. But after I settled in, I was ok. After 22miles we found a pub for coffee and cake. Then a another 24miles on the way back. Including the last 3mile climb back over the hill home which was magical. Not a sound and no one else out, just the two of us with the bikes climbing nice and steady.Still. 46miles in bob on 3hours was good going for us, with an extra 20minutes for coffee and cake, averaging 24kph, which wasn't to bad with 800metres of climbing. This London to Paris ride could be possible!
