We stopped in Hebden Bridge on Sunday for a coffee and cake. I tried carrot cake for the first time. Wish I'd got the apple pie now :/

Retro costs.....£160! Even allowing for Oakley's rep for pricing that is fucking steep...

Did a ride called the Carten 100 on Saturday. Basically 100miles from Cardiff to Tenby in a day.The first part was great, nice and undulating along the A48 to Margam by Port Talbot. Then through Port Talbot and over the old M4 bridge into Swansea, and then the wind started. It must have been at least 20mph head on. Horrendous . From Swansea it picked up a nice tow path to a place called gowerton which offered some respite from the wind, then the fun really started! We went over Lougher Viaduct, other cyclists were being blown all over the show. Luckily we managed to get in a train of other riders, so were out of it. Anyway after a few more miles we hit the coastal path by a place called Burry port. The wind here at to be 30mph plus! At some points the gusts literally knocked you still! After the last control there were some tasty hills which I made an absolute hash off! Still down into Camarthen we just followed the duel carriage way to St Clears which was straight into the wind! Then some plum decided to put is brakes on without telling anyone and I slammed right into him. Luckily I managed to get my feet out of the cleats! Never mind he said sorry. We then hit the worst bit and fucked the route off and decided to take the new main road to Tenby. A bad move. The road bent round and then up and just kept going up and down. The road was like a fucking wind tunnel, what with the road cutting through the hill! Still after doing some bits 50 yards at a time we got to Tenby in about 9hours. Not bad. But I knew I cycled shite, as my legs weren't hurting, the head let me down! Still a cracking ride and will defo do next year. The atmosphere and camaraderie was what made it. Plus the finish, with a cracking beer tent. We celebrated with a few beers round the town. Nice.

Had a go off road this morning on the isla bike, going out was all climbing, had to get off and push sometimes because there was no traction on the wet grass and my wheels were spinning. Coming down from Peel hill pushed it down the first couple of steep slopes as didn't fancy them, narrow rutted tracks and some big stones put me off. The third slope looked harmless, grassy and flat, set off down it, next thing i'm shouting fucking hell as my head is about to slam into the ground, was trying to stay on the bike so didn't get my arms down to break the fall, head hit the ground with a sickening thud, had a helmet on but it was my right cheek that took the impact. After hitting the ground with my cheek the rest of me ended up in a low level gorse bush. I lay there working out if I was concussed, I was dazed but nothing more, then didn't want to move as each movement led to more gorse sticking into me. Got up and looked like a porcupine cross, blood trickling down my nose and cheek. No serious damage, my glasses got a right bang but are okay. The saddle on my bike is fucked need a new one. Slightly chilling that tomorrow is the day one year on that my brother had the fall that resulted in his death.
