That's a very, very nice bike. Needs a couple of quid putting into it to make it beautiful again but yes. Good arrows.

It´s not that actual bike, just in case i gave that impression, but the same model.I´m not sure whether to try and do a proper restore job, over time whilst riding it, or just do decent upgrades as and when required. I´ll probably go for the latter.

Makes sense. My old Air conditioning teacher's just bough a frame from 63, all crome, going to restore with Campy group-set etc. Knowing him it will be showroom condition.

Fuck.Had a little spin on it last night and put the rear derailleur into the spokes. 7 spokes gone and an out of true wheel.

I am occasionally riding on a 1980's Dawes bike, that has been a bit of a rebuild. New wheels & back cog & stuff. Now need new stem (a bit shorter one) & brake / gear cables. Will be hard to do as some are internal. Nice to ride though. Will eventually get a new crank when the funds get an input of dosh!

That's where I bought my Raleigh ten speed, with Space Shuttle tubing. I used to wrk down there and commute from Halton. Hour plus on two buses or twenty minutes on a bike?

They reckon that picture is Burley Lodge Road. I remember it by Brett's near the lights on North Lane.Anyone remember Mel Bentley's on Knowle Terrace? There was a place down from where Stif ended up. By the Shaw Lane lights. Had a real bike on the sign outside. Students stripped it bit by bit...the scamps....

Me & my cycle mate went to cycle a 97mile sportif today, I had a day off of work. Anyway it was on and around the wye valley, well it is called the wye valley warrior. The event is in May but me mate wanted to cyce the route. Anyway it started off ok out the wye valley and then through the Forest of Dean. Up and down but not too bad. Had a coffee after about 32 miles and I was feeling ok. Out of Monmouth it was a real drag out & I Had to grind it out, then the next 20 miles were up and down like the Big Dipper. Got to 50miles and had a lie down on the verge enjoying the sun shine. So gets going & I felt fine, by a place called Raglan we hit a bypass and fuck me it was right into the wind. My legs blew. The next 10 miles to Monmouth again were a drag but I grinded me way through it. Stopped for another coffee and I felt a bit better. Out of Monmouth and a 6 mile climb, which undid me. I must of stopped 8times! A right bastard. So as time was dragging in we decided to miss a section out (real heavy hills). Anyway by the time we got home, we had clocked 88miles. I was a bit pissed off I didn't finish, but I have decided to do the following. Loose a stone, I am too heavy, actually use energy powders and shit for long rides, build up with a few More 100k'er audaxes (3 booked so far) before attempting another 100miler. I was cold and really tired when I got in and shivery. Not good! Never mind I will be better prepared for the next one by the end of the summer.

The sessions I've had planned for me have made a massive difference. All about heart rate and staying in the 'sweet spot'. To begin with I had to do a warm up and then 20 minutes flat out to get an idea of averages, resting and max and then my pal has done the rest. Writes six sessions at a go. We're on the second 'batch' now. Two and a bit hours a week. About quality not quantity.I took the monitor with me on Monday. Interesting to see how hard you work and when. One thing my mate said loads do is attack climbs too hard too early. Say your heart max is 165ish. You smash into a climb (head says you should), hit your max quickly and then you have to drop down to 140ish to recover. Means you struggle and go backwards. Better to stay steady (in the example, 150-155ish) and keep an even effort. Not explaining it brilliantly but you get the idea.I'm lucky to get all the expertise and experience for nothing (the lad trains with the Brownlees and has his own coaching company). Means I'm not wasting effort etc.You got a turbo UTA? The spin bike was a great buy.We did 4 hours and my legs were shot by the end but we hadn't stopped. Climbed over 800m in total over 30 miles. 88 miles is impressive stuff. Watch it with gels. Try some before as loads say they give them the shits.....

88 miles is impressive. Head winds are a bastard.

Did my 2 nd audax today 110k. Some real killer hills out round the Forest of Dean. It was 1.8k of climbing and apparently was aa graded whatever that means? but then some cracking country side out Ledbury and the weather was nice. Sore legs at the mo tho!
Foxy_Dread
Did 95k today, one nasty hill, several other hills that weren´t that bad. Pootled along at my mate´s pace so was a leisurely four and a half hours. Lovely countryside, should have set off earlier to avoid the searing heat in the last hour.I might do Halifax to Scarborough next time I´m back, though i´d hop on the train home.

I love doing that! Have a great bike ride & then a nice train journey home, with a good book.

Great ride with Foxy this morning.Canal to M'royd and then up and down Cragg Vale (bit of recon for the pro teams for Le Tour obviously). Bit of a downer on the way back when, tootling along the canal, my rear tyre blew up. Luckily a mate came and hot me home (I take tubes, pump etc...I don't take spare tyres!).
