Placid This not right this week at Old Woollen, Im bringing my head phones and a book.
Wow, what an attack on the ear drums. Absolutely mental.. Both mad and brilliant in equal measure.
An interesting collection of old kraut/punk heads, young musos from LS6 and a few art students thrown in. A nice vibe to be honest.
The pre gig tunes were excellent, most notably Silver Apples and Wire featuring heavily.
Martin Rev came on stage (Late) and attacked his synth bank and made such a cacophonous feedback drenched racket it almost made the ears bleed and then launched into his back catalogue, well to be honest it could have been anyones catalogue as it was difficult to work out exactly what each "tune" was.. mostly a drum beat of sorts and him just bashing at his keyboard bank with both hands to make a reasonable effort at a melody. Accompanied by a drone like voice with so much reverb it was totally impossible to tell if he was using words or just moaning.
He "covered" Give me all your loving by ZZ Top and Disco Inferno by some 70's outfit. Weirdly he must have programmed the music into his kit and he just did his unintelligible dronmoan singing over the top.
I managed about 50 minutes, had 2 pints of Lager and 2 pints of Shoffenhoffer. @oddjob was driving.
Despite not seeing out the whole set, I quite enjoyed it. He is clearly bat shit crazy and loves what he's doing, to be still doing the same mad shit at 77. Good on him. Still influencing people along the way. My ears hurt...
