Did Skipton to Bradley and back the other evening; just over 5 miles in 52 minutes. Felt great, surprisingly.

Just done 9.64 miles in 1hour 41 mins, but can’t seem to get out much lately ( 1st run for 3 weeks ). Hoping to do Manchester half in mid October but not looking likely if I don’t get out more.

Four runs in a week (and a ride on the MTB). Did 3.5 miles yesterday. Baking hot and a fair bit on sand. Was sweating cobs by the end. Still enjoying it though. I've started stretching a lot before and after. Seems to be doing the trick. Mate who does a lot of weights always swore by 'ballet' stretching where you do them for a long time and gradually increase the stretch. Nothing snapped yet.....

I had to read an essay for an A level student last year who investigated the argument of stretching before exercise or not. She drew a blank and the essay was as dull as ditch water.Personally I never stretched before a game of rugby I played in and never stretch before running. Just jog to warm up.each to there own.

I think a lot of it is down to my slipped disc. Everything from my calf upwards on my left side is affected so loosening it all up helps me get my actual stride more even and keeps the pain down after. Have to watch the hip etc. My physio reckoned I had the tightest hamstrings she'd seen. Not a good thing...

Used to pull my calf muscles regularly whilst running.Got to the point I was on the brink of calling it a draw completely.Went to the physio who advised only stretching after a run and just loosen up before the run i.e. light jog on the spot for a few minutes or walk the first hundred yards or so.That was over 2 years ago and haven't suffered since (kiss of death)! Each to their own routine I suppose.

Nice steady 4 miler this morning around the narrow streets and along the beachside boardwalk of a tiny fishing village on the Algarve.Heavy night on the sagres last night so blowing big time towards the end!

That sounds lovely mate. One of my favourite things about running was exploring somewhere. I used to work away a lot and would always go for a run where ever I was. Have run in some beautiful places (Rutland water springs to mind) and some shit holes (St Annes in Nottingham also springs to mind).I am going for a run tonight in a shit hole in South Birmingham as it goes - Ley Hill.

The eldest did the GNR this morning. Currently kicking off about the number of people taking part and getting in her way! Worst half marathon time she's ever had at 2.09, normally around 1.40.

Three runs last week - Monday a five miler on a flat track alongside a river, Wednesday a six miler of footpaths through farm land and Friday a four miler around the streets and parks near where I live - felt pretty good on all three of them.

Did 5k park run in 27:30 today. Chuffed. New personal best. Then went to Ju Jitsu where I've been told I'm going for my yellow belt next week! Not bad for a 54 year old ex-punk.

Bravo, Pies.

Done a couple of 2.5 mile runs this week and just got in from a 4.5 mile one. Ran it in just under 42mins. Definitely getting quicker but, more importantly, I'm really enjoying it. Just don't tell the bikes.....
