Reggie_Perrin just finished it. Absolutely brilliant book. And for all that it is depressing, at the end I felt better that someone as eloquent as Oborne is saying what he is, not to get a rival elected, but because it's just the right thing to do.

Travis_Bickle yeah I’m feeling that already. It’s forensic and whilst not dispassionate he is knitting facts together into undeniable evidence. I remember a lot of it so far and was shocked at the time.

I have forgotten how many times I have disagreed when someone says “ they are all as bad as each other” they aren’t and it’s a free pass to liars.

Cooley I live on the South Wales border & before the bridge was built you had to come from Gloucester down the A48 through the forest .

there is a road side cafe now derelict which apparently he used to use, as well as others on their way to wales. When I drive past I like to think of him in there nursing a 3day hangover smoking fags late at night in the middle of nowhere, maybe with Elizabeth Taylor as well with her furs & massive diamond ring. With a jag, rover or roller out in the parking lot

I’ve just finished it. A remarkable life. But sad in many ways. The demon fucking drink. Mind you, he was remarkably prestigious with women as well, so it wasn’t all wasted.
He defined sobriety as anything less than one bottle of vodka a day. When he was drinking it was, in his words, three or more. Add to that 80 fags a day.
He did well to reach 58.
