My point was that there is a large portion of the population in the private sector to which there is no perceivable upside to Labour. The response was along the lines of the private sector can go fuck itself and sweeping generalisations like this:

All of which reinforces my point, if you're not a nurse or a teacher Labour's attitude to you and your industry is less than reassuring.

space I'd have thought it was fairly obvious that was a flippant reference to those who constantly demand deregulation and then, when they get it, remind us all why we regulated in the first place.
As for teachers and nurses, they're no different to any other body of workers. Good, bad and all points in between.

I have worked in the private sector for 40 years now, manufacturing and engineering.
Mostly with SMEs, but occasionally in larger companies if the work was interesting enough.
Every decent engineer or business owner Ive met decries the Tory government of the 1980s.
Their self proclaimed govermental move from the UK actually making things to becoming a service economy has led to many economical and political problems, and this has come home to roost in this century.
The Tory desire to reduce the power of the Unions was a key factor.
The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist is an relevant today, as it was over a century ago.

I see it more as that if enough people offer a similar opinion, albeit in differing ways, about your own debating with yourself persona, then it might finally sink in.

Otherwise its just becomes a waste of time engaging.

Loose_Lips Starmer may break the cycle to an extent in that he seems more of a creation of circumstances than a particular political model or approach. We've had ever more extreme and, arguably, presidential leaders. Someone a little drier, dare we say dull, might be what's needed. I'd love a more radical approach in some areas, but his difficulty will be the economic, social and political mess he's inheriting.
