Local amazon peppers. They pack a hell of a punch.

The meeting of the waters of the Amazon. The waters of the Rio Negro meet those of the Amazon. They flow side by side until they finally diffuse some 8 km downstream. The speed of flow, chemical composition and temperature all contribute to this phenomenon. Sticking your hand in the water, there is a marked difference in the temperatures across the dividing line.

An hour and a half upriver to our Jungle lodge in Anavilhanas national park. It is impossible to appreciate the scale of this place without being there. There are spots where it is so wide you cant see either bank and others where it is over 250 metres deep. Who knows what lives down there, but we're going to try and find out.
