quote=StoychenkroyftenObviously I never ate there - Fish and chips down south... you must be fucking joking.:mad:Then you'd be missing out. Before I go, home, I'll probably make a pilgrimage to the best chippy round these parts - Grandma Pollard's at Walsden near Tod. High quality fish and chips every time, right next to the railway station.

Bits are a heavy woolen description. You Bradford/Leeds lot with yer new fangled fancy ways created this scraps abomination. Cod is also the default fish round here. With it been a bottom feeder IT would probably be the one doing the eating down south. You’re spot on about the United fisheries these days, absolute garbage.Tragically, Quality fisn n Chips (is it dirks or nirks?) round here are rarer than quality town center boozers. Getting them at closing time is an impossibility.Lest an old debate rages again, we used to have a really good one called the Ginnell chippy which was on a snicket. As with so many others the dwindling pub trade saw it off. John Dory ? Ive never heard the like
Fish and chips outside of Yorkshire just aren't up to scratch.Websters, Baildon, West Yorks.Haddock and chips, £3.25.Best fish and chips I've had.Special mention to the chippy by Morecambe's ground, mind you, that is Bradford-on-sea.
I went to a Websters near Saltaire the other day - pretty good, chips were very good but the fish was lacking a bit of flavour to get them high marks all round. Teacakes were a decent size though, spoilt by being slarted in cheap marg, pity no chippies use a decent butter, it's the small things like that, which make a difference.

I either take 'em home for own bread and butter, or specifically ask for a dry teacake.

Bap or breakcake I can deal with, but ....

you lot are off your swedeKW is bang right. fish/chips go in a teacake to make a buttybutter everytimethe teacakes should be sat on a tray with a see through plastic cover over said traycome the breakfast oreder - toasted current teacakes are what biffas in the office have when the rest of us have a bacon butty (thats bacon in a teacake)owt else means you are from Lancashire or you have some other defect
abig
THere's a decent chippy near us thats gone all Health and Safety and started serving them in polystyrene containers. By the time you've got them home the fish has started to sweat rendering the batter a dribbling mess and the chips equally soggy. They have to be wrapped in paper to be anything like the real deal.
Blue_Lou_Boyle
back in the 50's & 60's how did they serve them?these days the chips go into a small bag don't they, that goes onto a sheet of greaseproof paper and then that is wrapped with larger sheets of (news)paperdid they have them sheets of greaseproof decades ago

A teacake contains currants and is toasted.F & C are to be consumed within a breadcake.Or within a 'scuffler' which is a large triangular breadcake with a light dusting of flour. This form of breadcake is found in traditional mining areas.Stick that up your snicket.
