So where do oven bottoms fit into all this? Surely a classic defining example of a bread-based product that is more breadcake than bread roll i.e. a sweeter taste and denser texture? And any thoughts on those over-sized breadcakes/ breadrolls that Morrisons are marketing as "Yorkshire flat breads". Pretentious? Moi?I agree with abig. F&C sweating in a plastic box, so the chips go limp and the batter soggy, is morally wrong. A paper-based wrapping is ideal in that it allows the salt and vinegar to aromatise and infuse the food for a suitable period before condensing and being drawn into the paper to avoid over-bearing the contents.

The best oven bottom cakes I've ever had are from Leeds market. That stall just above the fish market sells several thousand a week. FACT.

Think oven bottom cakes are the same as what my old man calls 'Jewish' breadcakes.

I don't know if this is still the case, but my mate from Grimsby reckons it's common practice for you to take your own fish to the chippy for them to fry it.

Well despite the dubious claims of some the Bread debate will rage on and on. When we were skint and couldn’t afford Fish we used to get Collaps and Fishcakes. Surely there cant be any variations and that will unite the board at least
