I've never seen Howson 'hide' - I've seem him give his all and I've seen him have off games, but 'hide' is not a term I'd use. I've also seem him played regularly out of his best position for nigh on three years and never moan and always get on with it.His quality is obvious: the ball at OT, the goals in the play off semi, as Leb says, Forest, so for me he's a loss. You also have to look at the signals - that news item is ultimately saying the club doesn't believe we'll be promoted and we're selling our captain. Plus, whatever you think of him as a player, he's better than nine tenths of the dross we field, so if you're selling one of your best players, what does that tell people? That we have no belief or ambition.

If he wants the prem whaddya do? well you invest 20M on three quality players and say show us what you can do... if you don't do that what message does it send to players? We are Not Ambitious. So why should they stay? This reminds me of when we sold ferdinand, I knew it was the beginning of the end.

Was advised this morning by someone who knows Howson, and who has been pretty clued up about him previously. that;1. Howson was stalling on his new contract2. He was called in on Tuesday to be told that the club had accepted an offer for him because "they need the money".Selling Howson is the ultimate PR gaff when Season Ticket Renewal forms are dropping on the mat.For the first time in 30 odd years, this is the "full stop" as far as I am concerned, to the statement that we are a shabby, unambitious club. My season ticket money will be expended elsewhere.

Didn't bated say just recently that we would only be selling our fringe players?Didn't Howson also say it's a dream to play for the club let alone captain it. AnD on his new contract I'm sure it'll be sorted and I'll sign soon.I must admit I'm getting a bit fed up of all the lies coming out of the club now.I think the biggest lie might be our financial position, wouldn't surprise me if we're skint.

But the policy appears to be one season at a time. And Howson wasn't going to sign on again in all probability. Because there is no plan beyond a season and even the dumbest player must have sussed that.

The only thing that surprises me about this ...is that everyone is surprised.Bates will have noted the shortfall in ST renewals and this will be a reaction to that.Grayson will get his cut , which is why he's happy to be shafted and made look a cunt.None of this fee will be reinvested in the squad , only Howsons wages maybe now allocated to two nothing signings.And if 2M is the fee , i think it's a decent price.

this is different to Beckfrod...Lest we forget, he came up through the youth so even when his contract expired, we would have got a fee... this just smacks of money grabbing, and to me says the finances aren't as rosy as the chairman makes out
